Does IG trade on weekends? ›

IG is the only Australian provider to offer weekend trading on indices and GBP/USD. We also offer weekend trading on cryptocurrencies, as well as our Crypto 10 Index.

Weekend trading gives you access to indices, cryptocurrency and forex markets on a Saturday and Sunday. So, if news breaks and you see an opportunity to trade, you won't have to wait until markets open on Monday to trade. Weekend prices for indices and forex are quoted separately to their weekday counterparts.

The Dow Jones Index is a stock index that tracks the performance of 30 blue-chip companies listed on US exchanges. It is a key gauge of financial market strength and one of the world's most quoted equity benchmarks. On the City Index platform, the index is referred to as Wall Street.

Can you trade on the weekends? Yes, certain markets like forex, cryptocurrency, commodities, and indices are accessible for trading over the weekends through electronic platforms that operate near 24/7. However, major equity and stock markets still close on Saturdays and Sundays.

Furthermore, certain futures contracts, such as index futures, can be traded virtually 24/7, including weekends. This can be a way to get exposure to stock market movements during the weekend if you can't trade the stocks you want.

Our Saturday and Sunday markets on GBP/USD, EUR/USD and USD/JPY are separate to their weekday equivalents. This means you can speculate on market developments over the weekend without having to alter an existing weekday position.

Trade S&P 500 shares

When the US stock market is open, from 10.30pm to 5am, Monday to Thursday and 10.30pm on Friday to 5am on Saturday (UTC+8). Markets for all sessions stocks are available from 4pm to 8am Monday to Thursday and 4pm Friday to 5am Saturday (UTC+8).

In the United States, the four best-known stock indices are the S&P 500, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), the Nasdaq Composite, and the Russell 2000.

The US stock market opens at 9:30 a.m. ET and closes at 4:00 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday. It's closed on the weekends. These trading hours—also called a trading session—apply to the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq, the 2 main marketplaces where stocks are listed in the US.

Are commodities traded 24 hours? Yes, most commodities markets are available for round-the-clock trading – although they'll close at the weekend, and some have set trading breaks. If you're interested in 24-hour trading, commodities and forex are both useful options.

We are normally open 24 hours a day, from 11pm on Sunday (9pm for forex) until 10pm on Friday night (UK time). For markets that do not trade 24 hours (for example shares), you can find specific dealing hours in the deal ticket 'market info' tab.
