Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold - the Shooters (1)

Dylan Bennet Klebold

September 11, 1981-April 20, 1999

Dylan was a shy guy who loved computer games like Duke Nukem, Quake, and Doom, and he built his own computer with a Linux operating system. He was highly intelligent and by third grade, he was enrolled in the gifted program at Governor's Ranch Elementary school called C.H.I.P.S. (Challenging High Intellectual Potential Students). This program ended after sixth grade. While attending Columbine, Dylan enjoyed making home videos for his video production class and was heavily involved in theater productions managing the sound system.

Dylan felt awkward around his peers and didn't know how much he was loved by his friends and family. He felt isolated and alienated in the world, and longed for a love he didn't think he could have.

Dylan was one of the shooters at Columbine High School and he died of an alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound in the library next to Eric Harris.

Eric David Harris

April 9, 1981-April 20, 1999

Eric was an intelligent kid with a high GPA and a heavy interest in not just playing computer games, but making his own levels. He made a handful of levels for Doom and Quake, and played them with friends from Columbine and people he met on the internet. He was proud of his levels and published them on his website connected to his AOL screen name. His friends said he was funny and smart, but he could get intense when he was angry.

Eric was in the same video production class as Dylan, and they made home videos together with some of their friends and classmates.

Eric loved animals. He was always worried about his little yorkie named Sparky, who was prone to having seizures. He also liked cats, and they liked him, too. His friend, Alyssa Sechler, said that her cat really loved Eric and they had a little bond. Alyssa also said that Eric would always greet her with a big hug, although he lacked self-confidence and felt inferior to other guys.

Like his friend, Dylan, Eric struggled with depression and feelings of unworthiness, especially at school where the jocks would constantly make fun of him and treat him poorly.

How he died

Eric was one of the shooters at Columbine High School and he died of an alleged self-inflicted shotgun wound in the library next to Dylan Klebold.

Eric Harris' Funeral

Eric didn't have a funeral and if he had a private memorial service, those details have never been made public. According to the book Homegrown by Jeffrey Toobin, Eric was cremated and his ashes were stored in an evidence locker under the care of private investigator Ellis Armistead, who was hired by the Harris family.

According to Toobin, on June 11, 2001, Armistead placed the cremains of Timothy McVeigh into a locker next to the cremains of Eric Harris. It's been rumored that Eric's ashes are still stored in this locker, but the source of this information doesn't state or imply that his cremains are still there.
